What concerns on IGCSE oral exam, if you are able to insert some nice sentences in subjunctive mood you will get good grades. So, be aware, use a wide range of time tenses and distinguish among present, past and future and, of course, try to say some phrases that must be followed by present subjunctive.
Here you have some phrases that are always followed by subjunctive:
. “Ojalá” [if only] (ojalá estuviera de vacaciones / ojalá pueda ir a la universidad)
. Expressing opinion in a negative form. That is to say, instead of saying “pienso que están tristes”, you can say the other way round: “no pienso que estén felices”. It will work with “no creer que” [I don’t relieve that], “no pensar que” [I don’t think that], “no recordar que” [I don’t remember that] and “no ver que” [I don’t see that].
. If you express doubt and probability you must use the subjunctive, too. “Quizás” or “posiblemente” [may, might] can be helpful. “Quizás llegue a las 8 de la tarde” or “posiblemente Enrique quiera un pastel”.
. Condicional sentences. “Si fuera él no tomaría café” [if I were him I wouldn’t drink coffee].
Es una tira cómica, así que no creo que la mujer maltrate al niño. Sin embargo, no veo que ella esté preocupada por él. Posiblemente la señora no sepa dónde está el bebé o quizás no quiera cuidarlo. Si yo fuera ella me avergonzaría tratar así a un niño.
